On this eight-day itinerary, experience two very different landscapes. Spend a night in Nairobi before jetting off to Samburu in the arid north of Kenya. You’ll get to spend some unforgettable time with the elephant and find the Samburu Special Five. Then it’s off to experience the glorious game-filled Savannah grasslands of the Masai Mara, for some quality game drives in the hopes of spotting the Big Five.
Day by day
Nairobi
Welcome to Kenya! On your arrival in Nairobi, a representative will meet and assist you through immigration and customs before your Wildlife Safari guest manager escorts you by private vehicle to the Boma Hotel. Settle in and recover from your international flight with the rest of the day at your leisure.
Samburu
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before a road transfer to Wilson Domestic Airport for your light aircraft flight into Samburu National Reserve. On arrival, you’ll be welcomed and transferred to Elephant Bedroom Camp, set in a riverine forest on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Take some time to unpack and relax before heading out on your first game drive in the late afternoon. End the day off with a delicious meal and a crackling fire.
Samburu
Set off on an early morning game drive in the open-sided 4×4 safari vehicle, taking in the beautiful Samburu landscape with its dry plains, meandering rivers and distant Mount Kenya in the background. In between exciting game drives, kick back and relax in the camp’s plunge pool or lounge area, gazing at the camp’s regular monkey, impala and elephant visitors. Enjoy your afternoon game drive and return for dinner at the camp.
Samburu
Experience another day of game viewing around Samburu, keeping your eyes peeled for the Samburu Special Five; beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk and Somali ostrich. The Park also has a good number of lions, leopard and let’s not forget the large herds of elephants. Return to camp after your late afternoon game drive to enjoy dinner and then a drink around the campfire under the star-studded African sky.
Masai Mara
Depart after breakfast to Samburu airstrip for your light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara. Immediately begin game viewing as you drive past herds of wildlife on the vast savannah plains en-route to Tipilikwani Mara Camp. Take some time to settle in before enjoying a late afternoon game drive, followed by dinner at the camp.
Masai Mara
Wake up at the crack of dawn and head off in your open-sided 4×4 game viewing vehicle, for some of the Masai Mara’s exceptional game viewing. Witness the sun rising over the savannah grasslands, the silhouette of giraffe, elephant, wildebeest – and many more – on the horizon. Return to camp, enjoy lunch and an afternoon of leisure. Take a dip in the cool pool or kick back on a sun lounger with your favourite book or a G&T in hand. Back on the vehicle for your next game drive, perhaps the Big-5 is on the cards this afternoon? Enjoy dinner at the camp and then wind down around the campfire under the African Sky.
Masai Mara
Rise and shine for the break of dawn to enjoy another game drive through the Masai Mara. Spotting zebra, topi, eland, impala and many other species, not forgetting that lion, leopard and cheetah are found in greater concentrations in the Masai Mara than anywhere else in Africa. Once again, the rest of the day is at your leisure enjoying the facilities at the lodge before heading out on your next game spotting expedition while the sun sets over the African bush. Enjoy dinner at the lodge.
Depart
Enjoy a last morning game drive and breakfast back at camp before departing to the airstrip for your flight to Wilson Domestic Airport. You’ll be met by your Wildlife Safari Representative for your transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward travel arrangements.

Destinations on this trip
Kenya has as good a claim as anywhere to being the country where modern safaris began, and where they’re done best, and it still regularly features high on travel magazines ‘must-visit’ lists. Kenya has been doing what it does best for decades, and yet there’s always something new to discover on Kenya safaris.
The place that launched a thousand clips, and millions of images. There’s no more iconic safari destination than Kenya’s Masai Mara, with its eponymous tribespeople, millions of thundering hooves, and equal parts drama, magic and romance. Kenya itineraries without Masai Mara safaris are almost unthinkable, and every moment spent there is unforgettable.
Samburu is the ‘other Kenya’ – this semi-arid region in the north of the country feels very different to say the Masai Mara or Amboseli. It’s much drier and the scenery is more rugged. Even the wildlife is different, with species that aren’t found elsewhere in Kenya. What’s not to enjoy about Samburu safaris?
