At a glance
The Savannah Safari is our most popular Signature Safari as it combines the finest wildlife sanctuaries in northern Tanzania with southern Kenya, giving you a wonderful insight into the area. Enjoy spectacular explorations of the Eden-like Ngorongoro Crater and the game-rich savannahs of the Serengeti in Tanzania before seeing oodles of elephants in Kenya’s Amboseli and yet more wildlife in the Masai Mara. In between adventures, you’ll stay in wonderfully comfortable hotels, safari lodges and camps, all around the region.
Day by day
Nairobi
Welcome to Kenya! On your arrival in Nairobi, a representative will meet and assist you through immigration and customs before your guest manager escorts you by private vehicle to Nairobi Serena Hotel. Here you’ll enjoy a ‘welcome’ safari briefing, with the remainder of the day at leisure.
Amboseli
Breakfast will be served at your hotel before you set off in your 4WD vehicle with your Wildlife Safari guide, towards Namanga. Enter Amboseli National Park, its backdrop being the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. You’ll begin game viewing on the way to Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, in awe of your magnificent surroundings. Once you’ve made yourself at home, head out on an afternoon game drive returning around sunset, with time to freshen up before dinner.
Amboseli
Set off on your early morning game drive and with a bit of luck, Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-covered peak will be clear and uncovered. Return for a late breakfast with the remainder of the morning to relax at the lodge. After lunch, enjoy a late afternoon game drive around the many lakes and springs fed by Kilimanjaro’s melting snows in search of Amboseli’s legendary elephant herds. If you accept an invitation to plant an acacia tree as part of the Amboseli Reforestation Project (created by Wildlife Safari and Serena Hotels) you’ll receive a commemorative certificate. Enjoy dinner at the lodge.
Ngorongoro
Savour an early breakfast and depart with your safari guide to the border town of Namanga, where you’ll enter Tanzania and onto Arusha for lunch. Continue your journey, arriving late afternoon at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, set on the crater rim with an extraordinary view of the crater floor below. Enjoy the sunset and dinner at the lodge.
Ngorongoro
An early morning start to the day before descending the narrow track to the crater floor, where you’ll enjoy a picnic breakfast. Explore this Eden-like setting on the myriad of routes around the crater floor, a mini biosphere with multitudes of animal and bird species, including the black rhino. In the early afternoon, you’ll make your up the narrow track for a late lunch with the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Dinner is served at the restaurant.
Serengeti
Today you cross the adjacent Ngorongoro Conservation Area, passing Olduvai Gorge, the fascinating archaeological site, en route. There’s an optional visit to the local museum before you enter the vast Serengeti National Park. Here you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing on your game drive towards Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge, set on a ridge with panoramic views of the endless savannah grasslands. Head off on an afternoon game drive before dinner at the lodge.
Serengeti
Enjoy a full day of game viewing on the vast plains of the Serengeti, world-famous for its annual wildebeest and zebra migration, when nearly two million animals traverse the open plains in long columns searching for fresh grasslands. Migration aside, the game viewing in the Serengeti is amazing any time during the year. In-between riveting game drives, spend some time relaxing around the lodge, take a dip in the pool absorbing the magnificent view. Enjoy meals at the lodge and end the day around a sparkling campfire.
Masai Mara
After breakfast, you’ll head off on a transfer to the local airstrip to board your light aircraft, flying over the Serengeti, landing to clear immigration and customs in Kenya before continuing to the Masai Mara. Your Kenya safari guide will meet you on arrival and take you on a game drive as you make your way to your Mara Serena Safari Lodge, arriving in time for a late lunch. Take some time to relax and settle in before heading off on a late afternoon game drive and returning for a sumptuous dinner.
Masai Mara
Enjoy a full day of exceptional game viewing in the Masai Mara following herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, eland, topi, impala and many other species. Herds of giraffe and elephant create a magical silhouette against the treeless savannah. Your safari guide can arrange an extended game viewing drive, travelling further into the sanctuary far away from the other visitors and vehicles and visitors. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning in the afternoon to your safari lodge. Relax and take in the extensive views over the Mara River and savannah plains. Enjoy dinner and the sounds of the evening around a camp fire.
Depart
After breakfast at Mara Serena Lodge, enjoy a final morning game drive en route to the airstrip for your flight to Wilson Airport. A Wildlife Safari representative will meet and transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward trip.

Destinations on this trip
Kenya has as good a claim as anywhere to being the country where modern safaris began, and where they’re done best, and it still regularly features high on travel magazines ‘must-visit’ lists. Kenya has been doing what it does best for decades, and yet there’s always something new to discover on Kenya safaris.
Amboseli is known as Kenya’s land of giants, and it’s not hard to see why. Africa’s tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, towers over the national park, and it’s also one of the best places in East Africa to encounter elephant in numbers. No wonder people use superlatives to describe Amboseli safaris.
Descending into the Ngorongoro Crater from one of the luxury lodges perched on its rim is one of the most remarkable safari experiences available in Tanzania. Driving across an ancient volcanic caldera, the wildlife may seem familiar, but the setting is quite unique, and this makes for wonderful photographic opportunities.
The Serengeti takes its name from a Maasai word meaning ‘where the land runs on forever’. It’s one of the most evocative and iconic safari destinations of all – not least because it’s the stage on which much of the drama of the Great Wildebeest Migration is played out each year.
The place that launched a thousand clips, and millions of images. There’s no more iconic safari destination than Kenya’s Masai Mara, with its eponymous tribespeople, millions of thundering hooves, and equal parts drama, magic and romance. Kenya itineraries without Masai Mara safaris are almost unthinkable, and every moment spent there is unforgettable.
