At a glance
The Savannah Safari is our most popular Signature Safari as it combines the finest wildlife sanctuaries in northern Tanzania with southern Kenya, giving you a wonderful insight into the area. Enjoy spectacular explorations of the Eden-like Ngorongoro Crater and the game-rich savannahs of the Serengeti in Tanzania before seeing oodles of elephants in Kenya’s Amboseli and yet more wildlife in the Masai Mara. In between adventures, you’ll stay in wonderfully comfortable hotels, safari lodges and camps, all around the region.

Day by day
Nairobi
Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya, where your Wildlife Safari representative will meet and assist you through immigration and customs. Your Wildlife Safari Guest Manager will then take you to Eka Hotel Nairobi by private vehicle. Here you’ll enjoy a ‘welcome’ safari briefing, with rest of day at leisure.
Amboseli
After breakfast at Eka Hotel Nairobi, you’ll set off in your 4WD vehicle towards Namanga with your safari guide. As soon as you enter Amboseli National Park, your game viewing will commence. After lunch at Amboseli Serena Lodge, enjoy a leisurely afternoon game drive, with Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, providing a spectacular backdrop. You’ll return around sunset, with time to freshen up before dinner.
Amboseli
Set off on your early morning game drive; with luck, Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-covered peak will be clearly visible. Return for a late breakfast at Amboseli Serena Lodge, then take the rest of the morning to relax. After lunch, enjoy a late-afternoon game drive around the many lakes and springs fed by Kilimanjaro’s melting snows in search of Amboseli’s legendary elephant herds. If you accept an invitation to plant an acacia tree as part of the Amboseli Reforestation Project (created by Wildlife Safari and Serena Hotels) you’ll receive a commemorative certificate. Return to Amboseli Serena Lodge for a memorable dinner under the stars.
Ngorongoro
After an early breakfast at Amboseli Serena Lodge you’ll return to the border town of Namanga, where you’ll enter Tanzania. Stop at Arusha for lunch before continuing into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving late afternoon at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, where you’ll have dinner.
Ngorongoro
In the very early morning, descend into the crater via a narrow track. Enjoy a picnic breakfast before commencing your game drive along the myriad tracks on the crater floor – a mini biosphere of animal and bird species, including the black rhino. Lunch and dinner are at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, with leisure time in between.
Serengeti
After breakfast at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, cross the Ngorongoro Conservation Area en route to Serengeti National Park. Your journey will take you past Olduvai Gorge, a fascinating archeological site. If you’d like, stop here and visit the museum. Once in the Serengeti, enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing on your game-viewing drive towards Kirawira Serena Camp, where you’ll have dinner.
Serengeti
Enjoy a full day of game viewing in the sanctuary with your Wildlife Safari guide. The Serengeti is world famous for its annual wildebeest and zebra migration, when nearly two million animals traverse the open plains in long columns, but the game viewing is amazing throughout the year. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are at Kirawira Serena Camp.
Masai Mara
After breakfast at Kirawira Serena Camp transfer to the local airstrip and board your light aircraft. An exciting flight over the Serengeti will deliver you safely to Kenya, where you’ll clear customs and immigration before continuing to the Masai Mara. Make your way to Mara Serena Lodge for lunch, seeing wildlife along the way. After a late afternoon game drive you’ll return to Mara Serena Lodge for dinner.
Masai Mara
Enjoy two full days of exceptional game viewing in the Masai Mara, following herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, eland, topi, impala and many other species. Lion, leopard and cheetah are found here in greater concentrations than anywhere else in Africa. Your Wildlife Safari guide can arrange an extended game drive, travelling deeper into the less frequented parts of the reserve. Breakfast and dinner are at Mara Serena Lodge, while lunch is taken picnic style under a magnificent acacia tree.
Depart
After breakfast at Mara Serena Lodge, enjoy a final morning game drive en route to the airstrip for your flight to Wilson Airport. A Wildlife Safari representative will meet and transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward trip.

Destinations on this trip

Kenya has as good a claim as anywhere to being the country where modern safaris began, and where they’re done best, and it still regularly features high on travel magazines ‘must-visit’ lists. Kenya has been doing what it does best for decades, and yet there’s always something new to discover on Kenya safaris.

Amboseli is known as Kenya’s land of giants, and it’s not hard to see why. Africa’s tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, towers over the national park, and it’s also one of the best places in East Africa to encounter elephant in numbers. No wonder people use superlatives to describe Amboseli safaris.

Descending into the Ngorongoro Crater from one of the luxury lodges perched on its rim is one of the most remarkable safari experiences available in Tanzania. Driving across an ancient volcanic caldera, the wildlife may seem familiar, but the setting is quite unique, and this makes for wonderful photographic opportunities.

The Serengeti takes its name from a Maasai word meaning ‘where the land runs on forever’. It’s one of the most evocative and iconic safari destinations of all – not least because it’s the stage on which much of the drama of the Great Wildebeest Migration is played out each year.

The place that launched a thousand clips, and millions of images. There’s no more iconic safari destination than Kenya’s Masai Mara, with its eponymous tribespeople, millions of thundering hooves, and equal parts drama, magic and romance. Kenya itineraries without Masai Mara safaris are almost unthinkable, and every moment spent there is unforgettable.
